Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is Lets Buy The Rainforest (LBTR) a charity organization

A: No, LBTR is a not for profit organization. We cannot register as a charity as we will not be spending the money that we raise. Our land trust partners, the World Land Trust, will spend the money generated in their global rainforest protection program.

LBTR has no shareholders and any surplus funds generated by our campaigns will be reinvested in the development of new projects to help protect the rainforest.

Q: Why can't you guarantee to allocate 100% of the money raised to rainforest protection?

A: We are not simply appealing for money for rainforest protection we are creating / acquiring special memorabilia and experiences, which have associated costs. For example, our initial run of 5000 pins have been produced at a cost of 35p each.

In order to create a sustainable business model we have to build these costs into our conversion guarantee

Q. How much does it cost to protect 500 sq. ft of rainforest?

A. It costs approximately 60p to protect 500 sq. ft of rainforest.

Q. Who owns the land that is purchased as a result of LBTR campaigns?

A. The land is purchased by the WLT and owned by local community organizations. Before a project is initiated the WLT identifies a local partner organisation with whom a Memorandum of Understanding is signed and a work programme agreed. The WLT is responsible for fundraising and overseeing the project in the early stages and the local organisation works with the local community to achieve the conservation goals.
